We are having a party in a community hall next saturday, and along with the rest of the food we are … A 2-MOA dot subtends 6.6 inches at that distance. The 4 MOA red dot could also be a solution if you have difficulties with seeing the smaller 2 MOA dot as round. I had posted some comments on another thread regarding 3 MOA vs 6 MOA. For close and fast-moving targets where the shooter might only get a split second to line up a shot, the 6 MOA dot is the optimal choice. For action pistol, like USPSA/IDPA/Steel Challenge/3 gun, you want nothing less than a 5 MOA, 7 is better. I recommend the 3.25 MOA dot because it is small enough to allow very precise shots even at a longer distance, and a bigger dot like the 6 MOA dot does not help a shooter pick up their sights faster in my opinion.

By way of comparison, the 6 MOA at 5 stops below max is as bright as the 3 MOA at full brightness. Also is the vortex red dot scopes i mentioned the way to go? I have been shooting a 3 MOA a lot over the last 3 years and when I pick up a 6.5 MOA I do not shoot any worse.

I do believe the larger dot can be picked up quicker.

However the 6 MOA brightness falls off a cliff between settings 5 and 4, making it less linear, and arguably less flexible than the 3MOA. The plates are about 18 … The 6 is literally painful to look at set to max brightness in a normal room. You might be right when shooting at a target as wide or wider than a human head that is covered by the red dot. The other choice is 3 MOA, and I think that would be better on a rifle. On pistol, I've tried 12, 8 and 6 MOA C-More dots. Red dots make it easier and faster to line up sights with your target. The Acro P-1 has a 3.5 MOA red dot for rapid target acquisition, and it is operationally parallax free. Other makes/models, such as Burris FastFire red dot optics may have fewer options the Burris FastFire 3 red dots are available only with 3 MOA or 8 MOA reticles.

Here is my kid running my USPSA Carry Optic Division G17 with a 7 MOA Trijicon Red Dot at a local action steel match. – Red dots come in different sizes, ex: 6 MOA, 3.25 MOA, 1 MOA. i like the 3 MOA for a long gun or something you might be pushing out to 100 yards. In my own experience (YMMV), my accuracy, especially at 25 yards or more, is noticeably better using a 3 MOA vs. Since I started this thread I have talked to a few guys who shoot a lot of competitions and they prefer the larger dot but feel it is a huge advantage in the bright sun.
